"With hindsight, this probably would’ve been a more natural prompt two days ago on Earth Day. Oh well, nobody’s perfect."
"For today’s prompt, write a nature poem. Could be nature like trees, leaves, grass, birds, etc. Or your poem could tackle human nature. Another possibility is to look at the nature of technology or the interaction of planets around each other and the sun. Or well, the nature of poetry! When in doubt, just see what happens naturally." - text and prompt taken from the Writers Digest website.
“There’s Always Hope” (The Bop)
Fresh air, the trees, clean water, the wind, the sun, the earth, the sky, the rain. We don’t notice her pain as we litter, we trash, we consume without a care to the future. She tries to show us through eruptions and mudslides, tornadoes, floods and fire. Something has to change.
I go to the mountains, the forest, the sea where Mother Nature waits hopefully.
The ocean of plastic grows larger by the day. Unknowingly, we ingest it back through the fish we eat and wonder why we’re getting sicker. I’m trying to tell you if we each do one small thing each day we’ll leave our home in a better way. If we reduce, re-use, recycle and refuse to abuse our Mother any longer, we will see that we can restore what we’ve damaged. Generations to come will continue to care and will find better ways to protect and repair. If we start now, we can leave them a legacy to call their own. The meek might inherit the earth, after all.
I go to the mountains, the forest, the sea where Mother Nature waits hopefully.
I wander the shores and pick up debris. I ask for your help and you just look at me as if I’m crazy as I stand there holding our collective trash. The child by your side notices the waves heading in and realizes what’s left on the sand will float into the sea. She joins me and says, “let’s help the fish” & with those few words she grants my one wish.
I go to the mountains, the forest, the sea, where Mother Nature waits hopefully.
